  Prison term issued after appellate court denied bid for a new trial; guilty verdict rendered in july SAN JOSE — Former San Francisco 49ers star Dana Stubblefield was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison Thursday for raping a prospective babysitter at his Morgan Hill home five years ago. The sentence was issued by Judge Arthur Bocanegra after denying a defense motion for a new trial. Last week, the Sixth District Court of Appeal denied a related petition filed on behalf of Stubblefield by his attorneys Kenneth Rosenfeld and Allen Sawyer, who plan to appeal their client’s conviction. In July, a jury found Stubblefield guilty of raping, with the threat of a gun, a woman — identified in court as Jane Doe — who had come to his home to interview for a babysitting job on April 9, 2015. Two weeks away from the election, and the nation is gripped by a divisive, political discourse; one that comes around cyclically, as if by constitutional mandate. Twitter wants to know: Who is the “worst Chris”? The question refers, of course, to the white Hollywood Chrises who star in mostly Marvel superhero blockbusters (the exception being  Star Trek and  Wonder Woman  Chris, Pine ). All the updates from court officials had, so far, said it was a jury question, but this one was different. It said  court will reconvene , and the guess was a verdict. The national and international media, mostly gone for the criminal retrial of Bill Cosby, were back. Bodies were everywhere, frantically scurrying up the marble steps with laptops clutched, waiting on the long line to get inside the once sparsely populated courtroom. Inside, everyone waited. Reporters waited; spectators waited; the women in the gallery who said they, too, were drugged and sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby waited; the lawyers waited; and Andrea Constand and her family waited.
